Interactive Review and Assessments in the 1:1 Classroom

Session Resources

During this session you will learn how to create reviews for your students using Quizizz and Kahoot!. Then, we will look at how to create a Google Form to assess your students on the material that was reviewed. Through Google Forms, you can even set up the assessment to grade itself saving you time to create more engaging activities for your students. These three programs work great in conjunction with each other and allow you, as a teacher, to quickly assess what your students know and the areas that you need to continue to work on. Note: This session would be best for those teachers who are 1:1 or who have access to a Chromebook, laptop, or iPad cart.

Communications: How to re-design to build a 21st century graduate

Session Resources

Critical thinking, creativity, technology, research, collaboration, and “how to learn"-when looking at the Profile of a SC graduate, it is hard not to feel overwhelmed in how to cover it all effectively in the classroom. Our session will demonstrate how we design each quarter with the Profile in mind and keep reading, writing, and speaking skills at the forefront. Students will be prepared to communicate in a variety of methods and develop a better understanding of what is being communicated to them. Touches of Tech: Enhancing Literacy Instruction with Technology

Do you struggle integrating technology into your literacy block? Would you like to be able to integrate literacy more into other subject areas? Would you like to take what you learn from a session and apply it almost immediately? If so, then this session is for you! For an hour we will focus on how to use a variety of tools and apps to help enhance literacy instruction within the classroom. We will look at several projects completed within a second grade classroom that fuse literacy skills with technology across several subject areas. CANCELLED: How to Bring Technology in the Classroom Authentically

Who likes chocolate covered vegetables? No one. Exactly. As we begin to integrate technology into our classrooms more and more, we need to be aware of "sugar coating" our learning. Especially at the high school level, our students can usually see right through the practice of grafting social media idioms into their classroom lives. While the attempt is to connect with the students, this practice usually only draws attention to the separation between the ages of the teacher and student. This presentation will focus on ways to authentically create a technology based classroom through ways such as: keeping learning goals ahead of technology, being critical of student feedback, and challenging students through technology.

Using Note Board in Literacy Instruction

Remember when you had a cork board in your bedroom or on your dorm room door? It was fun to post pictures of your celebrity crushes, friends, and favorite quotes and was even better when you found a note from a friend. Note Board, a Google extension, is an online cork board with a multitude of uses. This session will focus on how to use Note Board in literacy instruction, specifically in place of reading response journals. Students will love leaving “sticky notes” about their independent reading and sharing their boards with their peers and teacher. Students can personalize their board with different backgrounds, drawings, and pictures. The session will explore other uses, including science projects, creating class book lists, and more!
